EMCOMM NEWS

WE HAVE ANTENNAS ON THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING!!

On Wednesday April 30 and Thursday May 1, 2008 ARES/RACES antennas were installed on the roof of the Paul J. Sweeney Public Safety Building. We now have antennas for 160-6 meters and two dual band antennas for two meters/70cm, one yagi and one omni-directional.

There was a meeting of the Communication Corps at the State EOC in Smyrna Tuesday, January 29th. The meeting was very well attended by both Government and Communication Corps including DEMA, Delaware Public Health, Delaware State Police, Civil Air Patrol, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, ARES®, RACES, and others interested parties. There was a PowerPoint presentation detailing where we have been, where we are, and where we intend to go.

A standardized training program has been suggested with just about everone all in favor. A long standing barrier to hams helping Emergency Management is the lack of credentialing and standardization. If hams can't prove their level of experience and knowledge, emergency managers have a hard time letting them into sensitive areas to offer assistance. Part of this standardized training program will be a four tiered ""Operator Level" with Level IV the lowest, and Level I the highest. More on this later but you may want to get your wallpaper for IC-22, ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, IS-800.B (effective 2/4/08), and the ARRL AREC-01 and 02 courses to be ready.
